Welcome to the Forest Grove School District Multilingual Learner resources page! We recognize that your family communicating in a different language at home is a tremendous asset that we deeply value and aim to preserve while supporting your child in learning English. Our mission is to honor our students, their families, and their rich cultural backgrounds and identities. We are committed to providing culturally relevant and inclusive instruction that ensures equitable access to knowledge and opportunities. Ultimately, our goal is for every student to confidently read, write, speak, and think across languages while developing a deep pride in their cultural identity. In doing so, they will graduate fully prepared for college, career, and life in a diverse, multilingual world.

 

Here, you will find helpful information and materials regarding our language programs:

  • Dual Language Program (DLP): Discover how our DLP aims to help students become confidently bilingual and biliterate in both Spanish and English. You can learn about our 80/20 instructional model where early grades learn mostly in Spanish before gradually balancing with English, the lifelong academic and social benefits of bilingualism, and how students build strong connections between the two languages.
  • English Language Development (ELD): Find out how we support students who are actively learning English. These resources explain how students qualify for ELD services through a language screener, how they receive integrated or designated instruction during the school day, and the steps for them to successfully demonstrate proficiency and exit the program.
  • Multilingual Learner District Plan: Explore our comprehensive, research-driven plan for supporting all multilingual students. This details our commitment to culturally inclusive instruction, providing equitable access to advanced coursework, and ensuring families are engaged as authentic partners in our schools.
