Oregon State Senator Janeen Sollman & Community Members Work With Students on Job Skills

A few days ago a few Forest Grove community members joined students at Tuality Plains High School as they learned about preparing to apply for jobs. Community members helped to polish cover letters, hone resumes, and practice interview skills. For the volunteers, the experience was as rewarding for them as it was for the students. Russ Peters shared that he found immense value in the process, saying that he loved working with the students and giving back, even admitting that the interaction "gets him out of his comfort zone."

The students also had the exciting opportunity to host Oregon State Senator Janeen Sollman, who came back to her old stomping grounds to inspire the next generation. "I love working with these students and it brings me full circle as I am a graduate of FGSD," Senator Sollman remarked, adding that she was considerably impressed by the caliber of the students she worked alongside.

Students saw the value of working with those who have real-world experience. Jesus Lugo, who spent time refining his resume, appreciated the unique perspective the visitors brought to the table. He noted that he enjoyed working with Mr. Peters because he helped him improve his resume and "liked that he had already been through it all and could offer real-world insight."
