Summer Programs: Excessive Heat Procedures

The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority during the summer months, and our staff is dedicated to monitoring children closely for any signs of heat exhaustion. Our district tracks weather forecasts around the clock to make the best decisions for our families, ensuring every child stays safe, hydrated, and ready to learn.

Heat Guidelines: What to Expect

The district uses the following forecasted maximum temperatures to determine necessary actions for our summer programs:

99° and below: Normal Operations Students report to their programs as usual. All students are required to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

100° – 109°: Early Release Schedule Programs will operate on a modified early release schedule. Students must bring a refillable water bottle; emergency water is available on school buses if needed.

110° and above: School Closure All summer programs will be closed for the day to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Early Release Schedules when temperatures are forecasted between 100° and 109°, the following modified schedules will be in effect:

Stay Informed: How We Notify You

The district utilizes multiple channels to communicate schedule changes. Notifications are made based on the following timelines:

Prior-Day Notifications Whenever possible, a decision to modify the schedule will be made by 10:00 a.m. the day before the heat event. Information will be shared through:

Paper notices sent home with students

Same-Day Notifications If a determination cannot be made the day prior, a final decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. that morning. Information will be shared through:

Hydration is Key: Ensure your child brings a refillable water bottle to their program every single day.

Check Early: On days when high heat is forecasted, check the district website by 10:00 a.m. the day before the forecasted heat wave for the most current information.
